Our new young team driver Nicholas Xu joined the 1/10 Modified Touring Car,

It was held on March 27 on a sunny but cool Shanghai TRS raceway. This race attracted 3 of the 10 Chinese qualifiers for the Beijing Worlds, Wang Hai Feng, Ding Fang Jie and Jerry Dai. It also attracted the Beijing World’s top Chinese qualifier for 1/12 Pancar, Jimmy Qian. The final result for 1/10 Modified Touring Car was China top gun Wang Hai Feng taking first position, Jerry Dai taking 2nd and our new XRAY driver, Nicholas Koh took 3rd.

Nicholas qualified 6th after 3 qualifying rounds. For the first finals he had a fantastic start from grid number 6 and managed to pass 3 drivers on lap one. On lap 3, Nicholas climbed to 2nd position after passing Ding. With 1 minute to the finish, Dai caught up and the 2 young drivers fought door to door right up to the finish line. Finish position was Wang Hai Feng, Nicholas Koh and Jerry Dai.

On the second finals, Nicholas had a similar good start and was again in position 2 after the first minute. However, 3rd place runner, Ding, hit Nicholas in the back on lap 5, causing Nicholas’s car to roll over. Nicholas fell to 8th position but was able to finish 4th at the end. Result for the second finals was Wang, Ding and Hua.

On the last finals, the race was full of incidents and Nicholas was caught in two crashes. He still managed to finish 4th but the final standing was based on 2 out of the 3 finals. He therefore only managed 3rd overall, losing to his all time rival Jerry Dai by 1 point. The modified class was won by China’s number 1 ranked driver, Wang Hai Feng and the 2 young drivers were able to stay on the same lap, showing how talented and competitive they are.

Overall, Nicholas got used to the new 2016 XRAY T4 very quickly, saying the T4 is very easy to drive fast and consistent. It is our second race with the T4 on a very low traction track and we are still searching for a good set up. We used XRAY’s variable rate 2.5-2.8 springs and will try softer springs in the next race.

Special thanks to our sponsors World Model (HK) for the support with XRAY products and Trincorp USA for the support of Trinity motors and batteries.
